Founded in 2003, Juhoud for Community and Rural Development is committed to the welfare of rural, low-income, and impoverished communities with a specific focus on youth and women. “Juhoud” in Arabic means “efforts”; it was chosen to reflect the organization’s mission of making every effort to change the Palestinian reality of poverty. Juhoud has three main program areas: 1) Economic and business Development, 2) community Development, 3) Adult Education, Recent Juhoud projects have focused on the following:

  • Emergency job creation
  • Training
  • Self-employment and livelihood support through small scale enterprises (predominantly farming, food processing and handicrafts) for youth and women
  • Land reclamation and construction support to small farms
  • Preservation of edible and medicinal wild plants
  • Civic engagement and voter education
  • Promoting adult education
  • Legal support to farmers to gain access to land

Juhoud is committed to supporting community development in marginalized and predominantly rural areas through promoting economic development, civic and community engagement, and life-long learning and training using a participatory approach that emphasizes self-reliance and focuses on youth and women while fostering a sense of national and community belonging.

The target group of Juhoud for the implementation of this strategy is youth (both male and female) between the ages of 14 and 30, specifically in rural areas.

West Bank rural areas in general, specifically: Ramallah, Tulkarem, Qalqelia, Salfeet Rural areas.

  1. To contribute to strengthening the local economy in rural and marginalized areas through fostering increased productive economic participation of women and youth.
  2. To foster civic engagement and participation of youth and women in their communities.
  3. To establish and maintain a sustainable system for resource and training centres and materials to support life-long learning, self-reliance and economic and community development.
  4. To enhance Juhoud’s technical and administrative capacity.
